We treat swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) by first conducting a comprehensive assessment using clinical evaluations and instrumental tests like videofluoroscopy or endoscopy to identify the specific swallowing impairments. Based on these findings, we create individualized treatment plans tailored to improve safety and efficiency during swallowing. Our therapy includes exercises to strengthen the muscles involved in swallowing, techniques to improve coordination and timing, and strategies to modify swallowing behaviors, such as adjusting head posture or changing food textures. We also teach compensatory strategies to reduce the risk of aspiration and choking, like pacing and smaller bites or sips. Education and training are provided to clients and caregivers on safe swallowing practices and how to implement diet modifications as needed. Our approach supports individuals with swallowing issues due to stroke, neurological disorders, head and neck cancer, traumatic injury, and other medical conditions affecting the swallowing mechanism.
