We treat apraxia of speech by first conducting a detailed assessment to identify the specific difficulties a client has with planning and coordinating the movements needed for speech. Based on this evaluation, we develop personalized treatment plans that focus on improving motor planning and speech production. Our therapy involves repetitive, systematic practice of speech sounds, syllables, and words to help rebuild accurate movement patterns. We use techniques such as cueing, modeling, and shaping to guide correct articulation and improve speech clarity. Additionally, we incorporate strategies to increase the client’s awareness of their speech movements and promote consistency in communication. We also provide education and support to caregivers to help reinforce practice and communication strategies at home. Our approach benefits individuals with apraxia caused by stroke, brain injury, neurodegenerative diseases, or developmental apraxia.
